(Eng.) Bazinga!

Week 25;

I’ve recently finished my “The Big Bang Theory”-marathon, and I laugh my face off by the geeky sense of humour that the show is based on! One of the main characters, Sheldon, exclaims bazinga! after his jokes, to show that he didn’t mean what he said, seriously. The website sheldonfan.com, explains the word like this; “Sheldon began using the term bazinga as a follow-up to jokes, pranks, and chuckle-filled “gotcha” situations.”

Here’s an exemple of a bazinga-moment:

Sheldon: “Leonard, you may be right. It appears Penny secretly wants you in her life in a very intimate and carnal fashion.”
Leonard: “You really think so?”
Sheldon: “Of course not. Even in my sleep-deprived state I’ve managed to pull off one of my classic pranks. Bazinga!

I’m glad I came across this funny word, because it is to my jokes as skis are to Norwegians! Many people think that humour is something you’ve said or -done, followed by smiles and laughter. I find that pattern to be too obvious, so I like keeping a serious face when joking, to see if people get the joke. Sometimes they take me too seriously and in these situations, I’ll now use the word bazinga! I guess I have to surround myself with brighter people. Bazinga!

There’s even a Bazinga!-t-shirt, which you can buy in the web shop appropriately called; thinkgeek. Click on the photo, which is borrowed from the shop, if you’re interested in this garment, or -in other geeky things. (It opens in this window.)

The word bazinga holds more definitions than the one that I focus on here. The 7 different meanings of the word, are defined in the webpage Urbandictionary.com (it opens in this window.)

I recommend you to see these two funny youtube-videos of bazinga!-situations (they open in this window); Bazinga1 og Bazinga2.

Do you like the word, as well? Then I’ve found the perfect facebook page for you, Bazinga! (It opens in this window.)
